Pacific Island Whales in a Changing Climate
(2017) Blue Climate Solutions, CetLaw Inc., Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP)
This report explores the impacts of climate change on Pacific island whales and on whale-watching tourism, which supports many island economies. The contribution of whales to blue carbon and climate change mitigation is also described in the report, which provides practical recommendations for the conservation of whales in the region.
Blue Carbon – Nationally Determined Contributions Inventory
(2016) BCS, The Nature Conservancy, IUCN, GRID-Arendal, Conservation International and World Wildlife Fund
This appendix provides an inventory of the existing Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) and ratified National Determined Contributions (NDCs) submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that include coastal blue carbon ecosystems, namely mangroves, tidal saltmarshes and seagrasses, as climate change mitigation or adaptation solutions. This document serves as the appendix to ‘Coastal blue carbon ecosystems. Opportunities for Nationally Determined Contributions’, which provides additional information and analysis, available below or from: www.iucn.org/resources/publications.
Coastal blue carbon ecosystems. Opportunities for Nationally Determined Contributions.
(2016) IUCN, TNC, the Blue Carbon Initiative, CI, WWF, BCS, GRID-Arendal, UNEP/GEF Blue Forests Project
This policy brief examines the existing Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) and ratified National Determined Contributions (NDCs) with regard to the inclusion of specific efforts addressing blue carbon ecosystems, namely mangroves, tidal saltmarshes and seagrasses, as climate mitigation or adaptation solutions.
Fish Carbon: Exploring Marine Vertebrate Carbon Services
(9 Nov 2014) GRID-Arendal & BCS
The report presents eight Fish Carbon mechanisms and raises options for the future of international climate change mitigation efforts and ocean management. The report includes a preface by Sylvia Earle, Founder of Mission Blue and a former Chief Scientist of NOAA, who notes that “acknowledging the importance of marine life in climate change will not only provide much needed opportunities in climate mitigation, but will simultaneously enhance food security for coastal and island communities, while safeguarding biodiversity and marine ecosystems on a global scale, particularly in the unprotected high seas.”
